Winston Churchill was born on November 30, 1874 to a rich family. Winston adored his parents, but he never really knew them as is whats made present when he says, " He knew more about his fathers reputation than any personal relationship with him. Churchill was destined for a life in the military after he joined the Harrow rifle corp. Although he failed the exam for the British Royal Military College three times, he still finished 20th in his class of 105. In 1899, Churchill left the military to be a military correspondent for the Morning Post. Churchill had a very hardy character just like his father he was independent and saw this as an opportunity to become a politician. He joined the Liberal Party and became president of the Board of Trade. He briefly took a break from this so he could rejoin the army for WWI. After WWI, he became Minister of Munition. In 1933, Churchill want to begin a rearmament just after Hitler was elected as Chancellor of Germany. Churchill hated that Chamberlain was trying to appease Hitler and thought that they should have just said no. When WWII begin Churchill was named First Lord of the Admiralty. It wasn't long after everybody saw that Chamberlain couldn't fulfill his job as Prime Minister, so Churchill was named Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. On June 18, 1940, Churchill made one of his iconic speeches to the House of Commons, warning that "the Battle of Britain" was about to begin. When the United States entered the war, Churchill knew that the allies would win the war eventually. Churchill worked closely with U.S. President Roosevelt and Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin to forge an Allied war strategy and post-war world. In meetings in Teheran (1943), Yalta (February 1945) and Potsdam (July 1945)(Biography.com). After WWII, Winston wasn't re-elected as Prime Minister, he was seen as a "war-time Minister". He was re-elected 1951, and was knighted in 1953 by Queen Elizabeth II. Churchill retired from being Prime Minister in 1955, but he stayed a member of the Parliament till 1964.
