Hideki Tojo was born in Tokyo, Japan. When he was young he was determined to have a military career. Hideki did well in military college, and was sent to a German attache at the end of World War 1. After WWI, Tojo entered politics and one of his primary beliefs was that the weak civilian politicians should be replaced by general like politicians. Tojo was considered a militarist due to his beliefs, and at the time the Japanese culture was militarist as well. The victory of Manchuria in 1931 helped get Tojo elected as the Minister of War on 1940, and made it clear that he believed that Japan should join Hitler. Due to Hitler's success Emperor Hirohito promoted Tojo to Prime Minister October 14, 1941. Tojo knew that a war with America would be necessary, so on December 7, 1941 he lead his plan for Pearl Harbor was executed. Tojo's political career sky rocketed after the success in the Philippines and Singapore. As America closed in on the Japanese, Hideki Tojo resigned from his position as Prime Minister in 1944.
