President Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8, 1884. Truman became president of the United States due to the decline in Franklin Delano Roosevelt's health. When he came into office he inherited the end of World War II, and while the European front was over he still had the Pacific to consider and decided to use Atomic Armaments to end the conflict both quickly and concisely. Prior to becoming the thirty-third president of the United States Truman was a Judge in Jackson County, Missouri (1927-1935), and an United States Senator from 1935-1945. His post WWII career was began with the Cold War, the creation of NATO, also known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and ended with the Korean War. He was planned to be succeeded by Adlai Stevenson but was beat out by war hero Dwight D. Eisenhower.
